hampshire this afternoon. and vice president biden will attend a rally in lynchburg, virginia. let's get right to it. nbc's mike viqueira is joining us from the white house. good saturday morning to you. >> hi, alex. >> first before we get to this president's trip north. is tropical storm sandy affecting any of the white house plans? >> it certainly is. you've heard this phrase, we're familiar with it, an abundance of caution. that's what you're seeing from some of the campaigns today. vice president biden was set to appear in virginia beach right along the coastline with his wife dr. jill biden and son beau biden. that event has been canceled. meanwhile michelle obama, the first lady, was due in new hampshire on tuesday. out of again abundance of caution they have canceled, postponed that event. mitt romney was due in virginia beach where joe biden was supposed to be today. they postponed that event. they've altered their schedules. they're going to be appearing elsewhere. you mention the fact that president obama, he's going forward with his trip to new hampshire today. he's also got a
about, karen. paul ryan, joe biden both of them hanging out in pennsylvania campaigning. a state that save for sandy and things that have happened with that perhaps relative to it it was considered a blue state. do you think the obama campaign's worried? >> no, i don't. this is one of these examples of what i would call a head fake a little bit. i think the romney campaign is trying to spend a little time and money in there to see if they can shake anything loose. i don't think are going to be able to. i've talked with people in pennsylvania. the biggest problem that mitt romney has in pennsylvania particularly the western start of the state, those bain ads were devastating. that is a part of the state, those are blue-collar workers. when they hear about companies being shut down, jobs being shipped overseas, these corporate raiders, that really had a huge impact there. and that's the kind of thing you just -- you can't undo with a couple of days or so of big advertising. >> okay. quick, tony. >> just real quick. i'm from pennsylvania. there is no early voting in pennsylvania. it
vice president joe biden and governor romney have canceled events scheduled in virginia beach. >>> we have live coverage across the east coast for you. the weather channel's julie martin is live in north carolina. nbc's al roker and the weather channel stephanie abrams are in delaware. we begin with nbc meteorologist dylan dryer. dylan, we had this new advisory released just about an hour ago. what's the news in it? >> the news is there haven't been too many changes. it is still a hurricane one category at this time. but we are just noticing the track budges ever so slightly with the newer updates. now instead of a direct hit right near atlantic city, new jersey, instead now it is down into delaware. look at the watches and warnings all across the eastern seaboard. obviously most out over the water but included in that northeastern south carolina, the east coast of north carolina, and eventually those will be extended up into virginia and new jersey as well. so winds are at 75 miles per hour, but notice the path of the storm still moving north-northeast at now 9 miles per hour. it sti
going to be coming out of cleveland on sunday night with joe biden. >> well that's going to be very exciting, sunday night. but i tell you it's a lot of work, this place looks great. let's talk about mitt romney and paul ryan. they had that huge rally last night in ohio. in that they the president was leading, chris, this morning by six points according to the nbc poll there. can mitt romney close that gap in ohio? we've got three days to go. >> how would i know? how would i possibly know, alex? >> i'm asking you because of your wide perspective having covered so many elections. >> it's a state republicans need to win the election. they always need it. they don't win without it. i remember even when they -- even when democrats win, you know, it's rarely a republican state. nixon carried it in '60 against kennedy. it's a republican-leaning state. but this time because of romney's failure to support the auto rescue, his opposition to it, and lately those dishonest ads about jeep going over to china are not helping him at all. >> right. so you think the auto bailout has played in signi
